Sofie Ramos is best known for large-scale sculptural installations of vibrantly painted household forms. Her textures flatten hierarchies and boundaries between art and everyday objects while also playfully confronting material excess. Often fossilizing ephemeral or soft material – from socks, towels, and furniture to dead flowers and old food – Ramos builds up layers of paint and enamel on found objects to peculiarize and re-characterize the familiar.
Sofie Ramos (b. 1990, Cincinnati, OH) received her MFA in Art Practice from University of California in Berkeley, CA and her BA in Visual Art from Brown University in Providence, RI.
