Marilyn Lysohir is an American ceramic sculptor known for large-scale installations that merge personal history, narrative and the unexpected potential of clay as a sculptural medium. She grew up in Sharon, Pennsylvania, earned her B.A. from Ohio Northern University and her M.F.A. from Washington State University. After relocating to Moscow, Idaho, she emerged in the early 1980s as a ceramic artist unafraid of scale: her landmark work The Dark Side of Dazzle (a two-ton, 24-foot ceramic “battleship” installation) reflects her themes of conflict, memory and domesticity. Her work often draws on her Ukrainian heritage, family stories, and lived experience, blending whimsy, critique, and unexpectedly visceral forms.
