Originally made as one of the costumes for a dancer to wear in the performance of Ocean Ions by the Volta Collective for the Laguna Art Museum’s Art + Nature series and exhibition: Christian Sampson: Ocean Ions in 2024. 

Aurelia Auritas are moon jellyfish, and the inspiration for the shapes of the costumes.

The Ballet Skirt is a wearable fabric piece, constructed using hand-painted silk organza.

Ariel Dill lives and works in Los Angeles. Born in 1976 in Los Angeles, she received a BA from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, and an MFA from Hunter College, New York.  Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe. Her recent exhibitions include, Wild Seed, Speedboat, Los Angeles, CA; David Hammons, David Horvitz’s 7th Avenue Garden, Los Angeles, CA; Viewpoints 1, Starr Suites, Brooklyn, NY; Generations, Brand Library and Art Center, Glendale, CA; Ten Sentences, Turn Gallery, New York, NY.  She has been awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Painting Fellowship, and is included in the Alex Katz Foundation Collection. She was recently included in New American Paintings, juried by Jerry Saltz.
