EMILY MARCHAND GAME BOARD

Emily Marchand envelops ceramics, cooking, and community organizing in her expansive art practice. Inspired by the native and manufactured landscapes of Los Angeles, she makes colorful forms embedded with vegetables, fruits, eggs, flora, and fauna. Her sculptures, wall works, and vessels consider tenderness and care as strategies to access a range of emotions with a timely focus on both joy and grief.

Into the highlands of my mind let me go is a Candyland-like cribbage board that wanders through Marchand's fantasy world of treasured places and favorite artworks—The Winged Victory of Samothrace; Niki de Saint Phalle’s Il Giardino dei Tarocchi; Claude Monet’s Garden at Giverny; Monarch butterflies migrating from Mexico; and the Capitoline Wolf with Romulus and Remus. Marchand tenderly gestures to her own personally significant landmarks, including her beloved pitbull, Ozzy, rolling on his back with a bone and a ball; Flamingos in the Camargue; a mushroom field in the Dordogne; and a beach towel and a bottle of bubbles on the Corsican coast.
